Animal shelters are always in need of towels and blankets for their furry patients. It helps keep them warm and comfortable in their time of need.
Womans' and teen mother shelters are another place to donate towels, blankets, clothing, and basic necessities. Let's not forget the men and boys in need too.
Keep trash out
It's one thing to have clutter in the home, however, when trash becomes part of the clutter, it may cause health concerns.
Take the garbage out everyday to keep your place clear and clean.
Know when your area has local trash pick-up day. Most cities have trash bins available to use to put out by the curbside. If not, you can purchase one from a local hardware store.
Damaged or broken items
Most of us have damaged or broken items around the house. You might of saved something with the thought of repairing or replacing a part. If it's been collecting dust on a shelf for more than six months, chances are, your not going to do anything with it. Toss it! Is it that important?
Duplicates
When too much clutter takes over, we often end up buying items we already own. These items get lost or hidden in the chaos. Decluttering and becoming organized, with every item having a permanent home, will eliminate the chance of accumulating duplicates. It will save you $$$ and time.
Expired food
Most of us have been here more times than once. Take something out of the fridge or pantry to use and realize it expired, 'last year'! Conduct a weekly check for expired items. This will help when making grocery lists for items that are really needed.
Dirty dishes
To avoid the ultimate pile up of dirty dishes, we need to keep up with this chore. Used dishes should be rinsed right away. Put them aside on the counter or in the sink ready to be washed. Or, place them in the dishwasher and when filled, complete a cycle. The plan should be to have all dishes washed by the end of the night. They will be dry and ready to put away the next day.
Incoming mail
Majority of us bring in the mail, throw it on a counter or table and forget about it. If there is junk mail or flyers you do not want or need, throw it in the recycling bin right away. Place the important mail in a designated spot. When you have set the time to do so, open, sort then file accordingly.
Laundry
This chore seems to be one we all dislike. In a blink of an eye, it quickly piles up all over the place. Everyone in the home should have their own laundry basket. Keep it in the bedroom or the laundry room. Pick 1 or 2 days a week and mark it on a calendar. Scheduling laundry days will keep it from getting out of control. Stick with it!
General cleaning
To stay organized, it helps to keep clean too. Clean as you go. Using counter space, give it a quick wipe down when you're done. Prepare a cleaning chart and post it in a common area. Delegate chores to other household members.
To-do list
A 'To-do list' can be overwhelming and chaotic if you let it. Chose a method and stick to one that works for you. An app on your phone, document form on your computer, or good old paper and pen style. Use the K.I.S.S system, Keep it short and simple. Use a bullet or number format if it's easier for you. Categorize personal, work, home to make it easy to track. Note the important items like bill payments, meetings, school events and so on. No need to list things like folding socks :)
